Pojawienie się tej publikacji było zapowiedzią uroczystego otwarcia cmentarza ofiar Obozu Pracy w Łambinowicach (1945–1946), które nastąpiło we wrześniu 2002 r. Książka zawiera nazwiska 1137 osób zmarłych i zamordowanych w tym obozie, które zostały ustalone w toku długotrwałych prac badawczych prowadzonych w polskich i niemieckich archiwach. Różne pochodzenie źródeł wpłynęło na kształt publikacji, jak i na upamiętnienie ofiar obozu. W obu przypadkach zdecydowano się bowiem na przedstawienie dwóch list ofiar obozu, które tworzą całość. Jedna z nich, opublikowana jako pierwsza w książce, została sporządzona na podstawie części dokumentacji obozowej znalezionej w Polsce. Do utworzenia drugiej wykorzystano niemieckie materiały archiwalne. Na potrzeby książki listy uzupełniono także o dodatkowe informacje: daty urodzenia i śmierci, a także miejsce zamieszkania, co znacznie ułatwia poszukiwania konkretnych osób. Dzięki tym rozwiązaniom publikacja jest szczególnie cenną pomocą dla rodzin ofiar i naukowców zajmujących się zagadnieniem powojennych obozów na Śląsku.

The appearance of this publication was the forerunner of the ceremonial opening of the Cemetery of the Victims of the Labor Camp in Łambinowice (1945–1946), which took place in September 2002. The book contains the names of 1137 people who died or were murdered in that camp, the names having been established in the course of long-lasting and arduous research work carried out in the archives both in Poland and Germany. The different origin of the sources made its impact on the shape of the publication and on the commemoration of the victims of the camp. In the both cases, it was decided to make a presentation of two lists of the victims, which form one complete whole. One of them, published as the first in the book, was drawn on the basis of a part of the camp documentation found in Poland. Similarly, in order to make the other one, archival materials of German provenance were used. For the needs of the publication, the lists were complemented with additional information, like the dates of birth and death, and also the place of abode of the victims. This greatly facilitates looking for a concrete individual person. Thanks to this solution the book offers particularly valuable aid to families of the victims and researchers who deal with the subject matter of the post-war camps in Silesia.
