Publikacja jest monografią dotyczącą pobytu ok. 6 tys. powstańców warszawskich w Stalagu 344 Lamsdorf, napisaną na podstawie zbiorów muzealnych i archiwalnych, krajowych i zagranicznych, oraz rozpraw historycznych i książek wspomnieniowych. Wydawnictwo to przybliża rozmaite kwestie, poczynając od przybycia powstańców do obozu, poprzez warunki, jakie w nim zastali i traktowanie, aż po ich ewakuację na początku 1945 r. Analizuje postawy powstańców-jeńców wobec obozowej rzeczywistości, w tym próby organizowania życia kulturalno-oświatowego, sportowego i religijnego oraz wzajemne relacje. Przedstawia różne powstańcze grupy, gdyż w obozie – obok dorosłych mężczyzn-żołnierzy AK – znaleźli się także młodociani i kobiety. Prezentuje wreszcie sylwetki wielu znanych osób, które zapisały się w dziejach Polski. Książka została opatrzona interesującym i wcześniej niepublikowanym materiałem ilustracyjnym. Wydano ją na dobrym poziomie edytorskim.

The publication is a monograph dealing with the stay of c. 6 thousand Warsaw Insurgents in Stalag 344 Lamsdorf, and was written on the basis of museum and archival collections, available both in Poland and abroad, as well as a body of historical dissertations and books of memoirs. This volume brings closer a variety of questions, starting with the arrival of the Insurgents at the camp, through the living conditions encountered there, ending with their evacuation at the beginning of 1945. The author analyzes the attitudes of Insurgents-POWs displayed towards the camp reality, including their attempts at organizing cultural-educational, sports and religious spheres of the life in the camp, as well as their mutual relationships. He also makes a presentation of different groups of the Insurgents, since – beside adult men-soldiers of the Home Army – there were minors and women who found themselves in the camp, too. At last, the monograph shows the figures of a number of well-known POWs, whose names are meaningful in the history of Poland. The book contains interesting illustrative material which was not published earlier. The editorial level of the volume is high.
