Publikacja polecana wszystkim tym, których interesuje czas bardzo trudny dla polskiego państwa i jego obywateli – pierwsze lata powojenne, obfitujące w problemy, których źródła tkwią w II wojnie światowej. Istnienie obozów na Śląsku Opolskim, kwestia, zdawać by się mogła, regionalna, została w pracy przedstawiona w szerokim kontekście uwarunkowań politycznych, gospodarczych, społecznych, w jakich znajdował się wówczas nasz kraj. Książka jest niewątpliwie ważnym wkładem w polską historiografię okresu powojennego. Jej walorem jest wysoki poziom naukowy. Autor wykorzystał szeroką bazę źródłową, na którą składają się archiwalia polskie i zagraniczne – niemieckie i rosyjskie, a komunikatywny język sprawia, że adresowana jest ona do szerokiego grona czytelników. Została wyróżniona w 2003 r. nagrodą KLIO II stopnia w kategorii monografii naukowych. Zdobyła również nominację do nagrody historycznej „Polityki 2003”.

This publication is recommended to all those who are interested in the days which proved to be very difficult and demanding for the Polish state and citizens, that is the early years following World War II. The postwar time was filled with problems, whose roots were to be found in the just ended global conflict. The existence of camps in Opole Silesia – the question which could seem of the regional significance – was presented in the book in a broad context of political, economic and social conditions, in which the country found itself then. Consequently, the work makes undoubtedly a vital contribution to Polish historiography of the postwar period, the main asset being its very high scientific level. The author made use of the wide corpus of primary sources consisting of archival materials of Polish and foreign (German and Russian) provenance. The communicative and intelligible language in which the book is written causes it to be successfully addressed to a wide circle of readers. The publication was distinguished in 2003 with the KLIO prize of the second degree in the category of scientific monographs. It was also nominated for the historical prize of “Polityka 2003”.
