The fiftieth anniversary of the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War in Łambinowice-Opole, which coincided with the seventieth anniversary of the end of World War II, saw the publication of a book devoted to people who had proved prominent and significant for the City and the Museum. It bears the same title as that of the cycle of meetings which have been organized at the site of the Museum in Opole since 2012. Volume 1 contains a presentation of 20 personages of scientists, literary men and women, artists, activists and enthusiasts of various domains, all of them being related to the City of Opole. Twarze Opola. Twarze Muzeum are both personages belonging to the first rank and those living in a shadow or indeed even forgotten ones, all of them being significant for the city and our institution, though. The sketches dedicated to them are of different forms: typical comprehensive biographies, reviews of outputs, interviews or self-reflexive texts. An additional value of this volume is its high editorial quality, including interesting illustrations which present, for example, details of a cement plant which ceased to exist, elements of a POW camp infrastructure fixed in photographs or the heroes of the series, working in their studies, staying among their nearest and friends, caught by the camera lens. Reading the book which is so closely connected with our surroundings will certainly prove to be absorbing. There are works advanced on preparation of the second volume for publication.
