Publikacja dotyczy nadal mało zbadanego zjawiska przetrzymywania jeńców wojennych różnych narodowości w niemieckich obozach koncentracyjnych w latach II wojny światowej. Prawie do ostatniej dekady XX w. zagadnienie to było bowiem pomijane w badaniach naukowych lub zajmowano się nim sporadycznie. Tymczasem jest ono równie ważne jak inne problemy dotyczące funkcjonowania niemieckiego systemu obozowego z lat 1939–1945 oraz losów osób weń uwikłanych. Prezentowane szkice poszerzają naszą wiedzę o tym zjawisku, zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do terenu Polski. Jak wynika z ustaleń autorów tekstów, którzy są znawcami problemu, losy jeńców-więźniów obozów koncentracyjnych były równie tragiczne, jak pozostałych grup. Znajdowali się oni dodatkowo w stanie swoistego zawieszenia, nie byli ani jeńcami, ani więźniami, lecz – znajdującymi się między tytułowym Wehrmachtem i SS – ofiarami zbrodniczego systemu.

This publication deals with the phenomenon of detaining POWs of different nationalities in German concentration camps in the years of World War II, the very subject matter itself still rather sparsely investigated. Until almost the last decade of the 20^th century this problem area had been overlooked in scientific studies or dealt with sporadically. Nevertheless, it is equally important as other problems pertaining to the functioning of the German camp system of the years 1939-1945, as well as to fates of people who found themselves involved in it. The presented sketches broaden the knowledge on this phenomenon, especially with reference to the territory of Poland. As it follows from the establishments made by the authors of the articles, experts in the field, the fates of the POWs – prisoners of concentration camps – were as tragic as those of remaining groups of the detained. Additionally, they remained in a state of suspension as regards their status: they were neither POWs nor regular prisoners, but subjects suspended between the title Wehrmacht and the SS – victims of the sinister criminal system.
